Hello and welcome,
This post has to be in two parts. Why? Because there is a lot of information and it is extremely important that you read both posts and take notes to use as new ‘thoughts to act on’ in the future. The main new thought you need to ‘think and do’ is the quote at the top of this post. By reading the rest of this and the following post you will understand why.
Do you think that what you want to achieve will fail, do you place other people’s opinions above your own, do you have trouble believing in you?
If you answered yes to these questions and you envy those who can, make a speech, go up to someone and ask them for a date, do exactly as they please, but you think “I’ll never be that self-confident”. Then self- doubt, fear and lack of self-confidence are holding you back. Why? Because you are subconsciously sabotaging yourself with the habitual thoughts, actions and strategies of unsuccessful, unhappy people. Your self-confidence ‘set-point’ is currently at a low level.
The reason for this is that you are programmed with repetitive, subconsciously ‘infected’ thoughts to ‘accept that mediocrity as the best you are capable of’. Lack of self- confidence is the one thing that keeps so many people’s life on hold. It traps people in their comfort zone, terrified in case they make wrong decisions. It causes people to be stuck in hopelessness and helplessness. They let the, needs, demands, opinions, and wants of other people run their life. It doesn’t have to be this way for you any longer.
There are ways to bring about rapid change in your level of self-confidence.
A significant improvement can be achieved in relatively short time. What is needed is a way to develop the ‘internal power’ you need to ‘consciously’ think and do, self-confidence in everything you do. The ability to develop self-confidence is already within you. What you need to learn is how to use this ability effectively. Use the contents of the next three paragraphs to develop a level of ‘conscious conviction’ that will self-empower you in the future.
1. Updating your perception of self-confidence can be achieved by learning and modelling the thought-habits and actions of highly self-confident people.
Self-confident people were not born that way, they developed the skill of self-confidence by thinking and doing in particular ways. They learned to understand how subconscious elements in their thinking sabotaged their efforts and learned how to control and overcome them. Using your conscious mind you can model the skills and strategies used by successful people. You must consciously create a ‘watchman’ to control and guard against the influences of subconscious mind in your thinking.
2. It is not enough to 'know about' self -confidence you must think and do it.
Your ability to feel self- confident is based on your conscious self -awareness level. You must create new conscious, sensible and common-sense thoughts about self- confidence that override your uncontrollable, unhelpful and undermining subconscious thoughts. That feelings follow thoughts is one of the foundations of psychological knowledge. Once you learn to apply the quote at the beginning of this post you will form the basis of being able to become self-confident in any life situation. When you can ‘think and do’ this you will automatically lower your level of anxiety and uncertainty, which is fundamentally how low self- confidence is caused. Notice that ‘mentally’ is part of the word fundamentally. We each have a self- confidence ‘set point’ that keeps us stuck where we are. This will have been created/ formed in childhood by influences you no longer consciously remember, but your subconscious mind does. Use the knowledge of ‘conscious’ understanding and knowledge to re-set your ‘start point’ to a new higher level. Once this new level is established it will be with you for the rest of your life. That’s what you have done in the past, with your old ‘set point’. You old level will continue if you do not learn how to change it. If you can learn it and understand it you can think it and do it. It, in this case, is to raise your ‘set point’ level of self –confidence.
