EARNING INTEGRITY, ETHICALITY??? AND TRUSTWORTHINESS! PART 1.

INTEGRITY? = (ETHICS.HONESTY. DEPENDABILITY.  TRUSTWORTHINESS.   TRANSPARENCY. DECENCY.  HONOUR. MORALITY. PRINCIPLES.) PART 1.

Link to a  5 minute video, INTEGRITY IN BUSINESS AND PERSONAL LIFE.

(Read this post first then come back here to link to the video. (You will find out that I wrote the truth). P.S. I wrote the post before I found the video, honest!

“In looking for people to hire, look for three qualities: integrity, intelligence, and energy.  And if they don’t have the first one, the other two will kill you.”  A person’s dishonesty will eventually catch up to them. It may not be today, and it may not be for many years, but you can rest assured that at some point there will always be a reckoning". Warren Buffet.

(I may have used this image before but it is relevant to myself, this and the next post).  I'll probably use it there as well!

Hello and welcome,

Integrity is not easily gained!

If I could teach only one valuable way of thinking and doing to live by, it would be this: Success will come and go, but integrity is forever valued. Integrity means doing the right thing at all times and in all circumstances, even when no one  is watching. It means having the courage to do the right thing, no matter what the consequences will be. Building a reputation of integrity takes time and effort. So I never allow ‘think’ myself into ‘doing’  anything that would damage my integrity.

We  live in a world where integrity isn’t thought about, talked about and acted on  nearly enough. The world has become a place where, “the end justifies the means”. This has become an acceptable pattern of thought for far too many people, businesses and organisations. Sales people ‘over promise’ in, order to achieve their sales quota for the month.  Applicants exaggerate in job interviews to get the job. CEO' s overstate their projected earnings because they don’t want the board of directors to replace them. Entrepreneurs overstate their business’s potential because they want the highest valuation possible from an investor. Investors understate a company’s value in order to negotiate a lower valuation in a deal. Customer Service representatives cover up their mistakes because they are afraid the client will ‘shop’ them. Employees call in “sick” to get their Christmas Shopping done because they don’t have any more paid time off left.  The list could go on and on, and in each case the person committing the act of dishonesty ‘told themselves’ (thought to themselves) that they had a perfectly ‘valid thought-reason why the end result justified their lack of integrity in their thinking and doing.

Some don’t even think that integrity is necessary.

It is true that some people gain power, success and money by thinking, “How can I cut corners”? and then act unethically, dishonestly etc. This kind of thinking and doing may provide quicker results, but it never lasts. There are thousands of examples of people without integrity who are successful and who win without ever getting caught.  This creates a false perception in others about the 'path to success' that a person should follow. In the examples above those involved will have gained the result they wanted, but unfortunately, that manipulated result comes at a high price.  That person has lost their ability to be trusted as a person of integrity which, for me, is the most valuable quality anyone can earn in their life. Profit in dollars or power is temporary, but profit in ‘a following of people who trust you as a person of integrity’ is much more valuable.

Between a thought and what you do, going from thinking to doing, you have a choice. Only you can decide whether it is ethical, honest, reasonable, fair, honourable,  or decent  to act or not. People without integrity act on whatever they think. Their good and  bad thoughts  and the actions taken on are therefore unreliable.

See next post for the thrilling conclusion!!!

Beneficially yours, always,

I’m impressed, I have to say. Honestly rarely do I encounter a blog that is both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you might have hit the nail on the head. Your thought is outstanding; the concern is some thing that not enough many people are speaking intelligently about. I am rather pleased that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this.
