I’m not an ‘A’ list anything but I am certainly not a ‘nobody’!
I have spent my life 'learning about life', not just, watching TV, going to football matches, doing the lottery, drinking my wages away, chasing things that I knew were too big for me to accomplish. Boring aren’t I? In the past, at certain points in time, I did do those things but I also learned that it is also extremely important to make the time to do something beneficial as well. It’s not very hard, you just give up one evening a week when you would be sitting in the pub drinking with your mates, or watching the latest episode of ‘Coronation Street’ because that’s what 'the missus' wants to watch. Sorry ladies!
Because I decided at a certain stage in my life to find out about things that really would help me to grow as a person I went from being a Postman to becoming a Lecturer in a Sixth Form College. Again, I am not bragging, just telling you the truth, the facts. I live in Spain because I used the thought, “I will never avoid anything just because it seems difficult to achieve”.
What is difficult anyway? Basically it is something that you don’t try because you think that you won’t be able to do it. If you had thought that, “Learning to ride a bike is too difficult” when you were five. You would still be unable to ride one.
Your present has been CREATED by YOUR past THOUGHTS and ACTIONS. This need not continue in your future as long as you know what to THINK and DO to make the change. Your future will be CREATED by your present THOUGHTS and ACTIONS!
My wife couldn’t ride a bike when we met twenty years ago. She couldn’t swim either. I taught her to do both. With a little help, encouragement and practical support from me, she achieved both things. She would have been quite happy to have continued her life without knowing how to ride a bike or swim but the truth, she tells me, is that she now knows that she was missing out on quite a lot in life. Without her accepting that, ”Some things may seem difficult but with help we can all learn, over time, to do the possible”. “The seemingly impossible just takes longer”
Look bear with me I’m on a roll. You can totally ignore my messages and your life will continue as it has been. I will still carry on thinking and doing the things that have taken me from being a lowly Postman to living here in wonderful Spain with a wonderful wife. You have the opportunity and responsibility to choose whether you learn how and what to change to join me in a similar journey. The next part of this post is just about you.
OK ENOUGH ABOUT ME, LET'S FOCUS ON YOU. I want to let you know about the process I went through to get from where I was to where I am now. That is living in Spain, very happy and looking forward to my future. How did I end up here? Well it all began with a thought!
We all have to THINK before we can DO anything?
Everything you, me and everyone else in the world have ever done in the past or will ever do in the future begins with a thought. What did you eat for breakfast? Whatever it was the first thing that happened was your thought,” I’ll have toast for my breakfast today. Then you did something. You made yourself some toast, or put some muesli in a dish and you ate it. You must have thought this before you actually did it even if you didn’t realise it. It don’t happen any other way.
It has taken me twenty years to get to where I am now but with the information I want to pass on to you in my blogs is this. You can get to where you want to be in far less time. Why? Because I had to find out by trial and error what it takes to totally empower myself to change my life. You could do it in far less time because I will give you all of the most essential knowledge you will ever need.
There are many well intentioned, ethical and well meaning people in the self-help arena. There are hundreds of excellent, well written and encouraging self - help books available about how to become the best YOU that you can be. I have read hundreds of them and as a result of careful, open minded and non -judgemental appraisal of what is 'out there' I have concluded that what it all comes down to is, a far more focused, more simply understood and easily applied way of learning how to become ‘SELF-EMPOWERED’. I use this term instead of self - help, self - development etc because it more truthfully describes the process of becoming a, more successful, healthier and happier person.
I firmly believe that you, me, any person on earth, all have the power within us to become someone who evolves, gets better and lives a life of personal growth.
My life has been changed by such people as, Jim Rohn, Brian Tracey, Napoleon Hill, James Allen (my favourite). They spent their whole life trying to get ordinary people to understand how to become extraordinary. My research and in depth assessment of all these people and their books, seminars and material has brought me to the conclusion that everything we each achieve or don't achieve comes down to two things. What you THINK and what you DO are the two most self – empowering (or destructive) abilities available to every person on this planet.
I hinted at this earlier. What you had for breakfast began as a thought in your mind and by you acting on that thought you either got your food or you didn’t because if you did nothing about the thought the food would still be in the packet. What you ate, muesli or sausages, bacon, muffins, or hash-browns or whatever, it was a thought that you had that began the process.
What you thought and did was the process which also made the difference between whether you ate something that was beneficial to you or was likely to be detrimental to your health and your life expectancy.
Did you know? Porsche also builds tractors.
Consuming, doughnuts, soft drinks, (is it just the drinks that are soft?) sausage rolls, cream cakes, chocolate bars, chips, fried foods, etc plus six hours a day sitting on the couch watching TV equals getting fat, ill and shortening your life. Thinking and doing/eating muesli, orange juice and a decaf coffee with no sugar will help you to improve, prolong and benefit your life.
You know, as well as I do, that eating, wrong food, sitting on the couch and spending six hours a day watching TV or playing computer games will not do you any good. If you THINK this and DO this long enough you will soon HAVE a health problem.
I used to do that but once I realised that my 'wrong thinking and doing' was speeding me to an early grave I changed my THINKING and DOING about diet and exercise. Now according to my doctor here in Spain I am in the very best condition I could be for my age!
